Rural Dorset Cottages

Anvil Cottage
Anvil Cottage is a converted Blacksmith's forge. It has large rooms and is very comfortable. Situated in a quiet hamlet, there are many footpaths close by. The property is on a small holding with a few sheep, cattle and a pony.

Longleat, Farmer Giles Park & Monkey World can all be reached in under 1 hour. Kingston Lacey and many other National Trust properties are within easy reach. Safe bathing is available at Weymouth & Bournemouth and children are welcomed.

A lovely place for a most restful holiday in a very unspoilt region of England.

2 Cottages - Jon and Sarah Drake welcome you to Vale Farm Holiday Cottages, new luxury barn conversions situated in the Blackmore Vale with outstanding views. Within easy reach of the coast and many historical places of interest, we are ideally situated to all of Dorsets many attractions.

The cottages offer accommodation of a very high standard (4 Keys Highly Commended) and are exceptionally well equipped, with large patio areas making it an ideal holiday base. A games room is provided with table-tennis, skittles, pool and a jukebox.

The area is excellent for keen cyclists, walkers, and is rich in quality character pubs/restaurants providing the perfect holiday for anyone wishing to have a peaceful break in Dorset.

3 Cottages - Created from a 17th C. barn, in a walled courtyard with garden furniture and barbecues, these cottages are comprehensively equipped and furnished to a high standard. Two cottages have a downstairs bedroom with en-suite facilities, thus suitable for the less mobile.

In the heart of rural Dorset, yet only 10 miles from the coast, the cottages are on the edge of the village of Bere Regis but within walking distance of pubs & shops. There are great country walks & mountain bike rides on the doorstep. Situated at the end of a lane it is also very safe for children & dogs. These five superb single-storey cottages originating in the 17th Century and now carefully restored are set around a fragrant herb garden and arranged to give optimum privacy to each.

The 4 acres of safe grounds, surrounded by fields, provide areas for play and peaceful relaxation. Children adore the adventure playground with the swings, slides and sandpit. The games room on the first floor of the barn offers table tennis and snooker, with a play kitchen for younger visitors.

Within 5 minutes' walking distance from the property are the village shop, the post office, a pub ( which is well known for its good beer and good food), and a railway halt for the Weymouth-Bristol line. Sherborne is 7 miles away and the county town of Dorchester is 15 miles from Chetnole. The beautiful Dorset Coast is 20 miles away and worth the trip.

This charming annexe is ideally placed for touring Dorset and sampling all the delights the county has to offer. It is well positioned for visiting historic houses and gardens in both Dorset and Somerset and there are footpaths providing good walks near to the property such as the Hardy Way and the Macmillan Way.

Chitcombe Cottage, Woolland is a secluded cottage offering peace and tranquility. Set in a private nature reserve and located at the foot of Bulbarrow Hill - with its spectacular views over five counties - it is ideal for birdwatchers, wildlife enthusiasts, walkers and tourists.

Bulbarrow Hill has recently been commemorated as one of the few worldwide areas of outstanding beauty; ranking alongside Beachy Head and the Grand Canyon.

Local amenities offer shopping, pub meals, golf, fishing, horse riding, walking routes, cycling routes etc. Local sightseeing includes Sherborne Castle, Milton Abbas, Cerne Abbas (with its giant!), Shaftsbury and Wimborne. The coastal towns of Bournemouth, Poole, Weymouth, Swanage and Lulworth Cove are about 45 minutes drive. Days out can include Bath, Longleat, Cheddar Gorge and Wookey Hole, Lyme Regis, Winchester, the New Forest and much more.

Clyffe Dairy Cottage and Old Dairy Cottage are two character cottages with 'olde-worlde' charm, both having beams and feature inglenook fireplaces.

Tincleton is a perfect location in Thomas Hardy countryside, ideally positioned for visiting the numerous splendid attractions on offer as well as being within easy reach of the whole of Dorset's beautiful coastline and good local eating houses. The spring flowers from February, with snowdrops, daffodils, primroses and bluebells followed by rhododendrons, are a spectacular sight.

Durweston Lodge
Nestling deep in the heart of Hardy's Wessex, amidst beautiful rolling countryside and yet only a half hour's drive from the sea, Durweston Lodge with its carved 1899 motif and elegant gothic stone driveway was built as one of three gate lodges for Bryanston House. It lies in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB), within a Conservation Area, and alongside a site of Archaeological Importance (a buried medieval village). It has breathtaking views across the Stour Valley and across a paddock towards picturesque Durweston village.



Hill View Barn
3 Cottages - We are situated on the South Coast, in a rural location. The views are panoramic across the local countryside. We have all types of fishing close by. We are 5 miles from the local harbour of West Bay and 3 miles from the town of Bridport.

All cottages are fitted out to a very high standard with all new electrical equipment. Centrally heated and all with a stone fireplace with electric coal fire to give that warm setting.

4 cottages - situated in the grounds of this 20 acre farm in the Blackmore Vale. Spectacular views from Bulbarrow Hill, the second highest point in Dorset, within 2 miles walking distance. A haven for children, and well-behaved (country-wise) dogs are very welcome. Enjoy the peace and quiet, coarse fish in the three private lakes stocked with Mirror Carp, Common Carp, Rudd, Tench & bream.

Jasmine and Plumtree Cottages were built in approximately 1830 and are well-equipped and comfortably furnished (3 Star in all four cottages). The Lodge and Stable are recently converted single storey barn conversions, furnished to a very high standard.

An indoor, heated swimming pool with outside Hot Tub and children's play area will be opening end of May 2005.

The Old School is set at the edge of the tranquil village of Toller Porcorum in a conservation area by the River Hooke valley in Thomas Hardy's beloved Dorset countryside which is within easy reach of the beautiful Heritage Coast, with beautiful views of the open countryside.

Old School Cottage, The Upper School and Lower School are situated in an ideal centre for visiting such places as Burton Bradstock (8 miles), West Bay/Bridport (8 miles), Beaminster (8 miles) and Dorchester (11 miles). Weymouth, Lyme Regis and Abbotsbury, with its famous swannery and tropical gardens are all within the surrounding area including Eggardon Hill, just 2 miles away. The neighbouring village of Maiden Newton has a bakery, grocery shop, public house and garage.

Originally converted from The Old School, The Lower School (ground floor) and The Upper School (first floor) have both recently been refurnished to a high standard. The Old School Cottage nearby is a single storey dwelling with 2 bedrooms each with an ensuite room. They are situated close to the end of a no through road and command stunning views across the countryside. There are many good walks in the area, especially as the properties are within close proximity to a footpath which takes you into the open countryside and within easy walking distance (approx 1.5 miles of Kingcombe Nature Reserve.

Potash Cottage is picturesque converted stable building offering high standard accommodation for up to 8 in the pretty hamlet of Sandhills, a few minutes walk from Cattistock, a traditional Dorset village with post office/shop and pub.

There is a patio with table and chairs overlooking a pretty garden and orchard. A sheltered picnic area overlooks the upper reaches of the river Frome through owner's adjoining paddocks.

There are many interesting places within easy reach for both adults and children (Kingston Lacy, Cerne Abbas Giant, Fleet Air Arm and Tank Museums).
